cartoon pictures

CartDisk

I take pleasure in presenting a collection of cartoons of Late Talisetti Rama Rao, a talented cartoonist who it is said inspired Shankar(Shankar's Weekly) and R.K. Laxman.

These Cartoons appeared in the now defunct Andhra Patrika Diamond Jubliee Issue(1964-65).

I could collect them through the good offices of late B. Seetapati Rao Retired HOD Physics, Garividi in 1989.

Mr. Rama Rao died young (Mid 30's of age) these Cartoons were drawn through 1929 and 1936.

Mr. Rama Rao hailed from Jeypore(Koraput dist) where his father was employed by the Maharaja of Jeypore Vikramadevaverma who's statue can be seen opposite JVD College of Science and Technology Andhra University Waltair.

As no mention of such a talented and creative Artist of Andhra is made even in passing , this page is opened to draw the attention of all Telugu's across the globe and trace Rama Rao's descendents.

Mr. Ramaraos lampooned the habits , attitudes etc of middle class people of his times as well as corruption in public life.

To illustrate, “ habits die hard ”, He draws a Billiard player shooting a bird not straight but by reflective rebound.

A toddy tapper takes a pot of water up a tree and drinks as he would have drunk toddy. No mention is made of Ramarao even in passing by anyone. Attempts to trace his descendants have been futile. His Cartoons deserves to be an inspiration for many Andhra kids of future.
